Tired of trying, Tinajero began to cry. He cried so loud and so much that his cries awoke people downtown and made babies roll in their cradles and birds fly away from their nests. He cried so loud and so much that his tears dampened the kisses of lovers and scared thieves and silenced the Earth all at once.
The Earth was then silent.
Children had been torn away from their mothers. Children had been pulled apart from their fathers. Children had been left alone in front of a broken TV with no xBox, with no Cheerios or fries, no iPod, no iPhone, no iBook, no iMac, no iMom, no iDad, no iAm, no i. They had been left with nothing at all. Children were mad.
And that was why Tinajero was sad. So he cried. He yelled and he cried. And soon all his yelping and sobbing and moaning and weeping turned into a song. People downtown went back to sleep. Babies stayed still. Lovers got caught up in the flames of their passion again. Thieves ran and fell in a swamp. But birds... birds didn't return to their nests. Instead, they came over to watch Tinajero sing. Suddenly, all the feathers of all these birds turned blue, cosmic blue. Tinajero looked up to the skies and saw...
- What are you staring at?, he asked.
- We're watching you, they replied.
- Yeah, but why?, he asked again.
- Because the air is cold but your voice is warm and your eyes are tender, they told him.
- So I see, he muttered.
Flying over a cloud of cosmic-blue-feathered birds, Tinajero started what we all know by now: The Cosmic Blue Parade for Children Overseas.
The Earth is now filled with feathers and songs. Children smile calmly, joyeux.
